The recent Comedy Central decision to censor the 200th episode of South Park, while at the same time planning a series spoofing Jesus Christ, is the most glaring example that comes to mind. The reason for the censorship? Fear of violent retribution. As this article explains, this is exactly the wrong approach. Ibrahim points out that "...by constantly buckling in to the slightest Muslim displeasure — whether by altering films, removing museum art, or canceling book launches — the West has perpetuated a vicious cycle wherein Muslim sensitivities are ever heightened and outraged at the slightest slight, and Western freedoms of expression are correspondingly diminished and trampled upon..."
